DIA INTERNACIONAL DE JIGORO KANO (1860-1938)
EN EL 166 ANIVERSARIO DE SU NACIMIENTO

Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana.- Con la fundación de la World Judo Federation (WJF) el 26 de agosto 2010 en Rio de Janeiro, Brasil se instituyo el Dia Internacional de Jigoro Kano para resaltar la trayectoria y ejecutorias de este personaje en el ámbito mundial que en 1882 fundo el Kodokan para promover y desarrollar el Judo.
Sobre esa designación este 28 de octubre, día del nacimiento de Jigoro Kano, estaremos en la versión número diez y seis de esta celebración que promueven las Federaciones Nacionales afiliadas con diferentes actividades que van desde charlas sobre la figura del maestro Kano quien tuvo el honor de ser el primer miembro del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI) del Imperio del Sol Naciente y Reino de Crisantemo, el Japón, así mismo, exhibiciones, examinaciones de grado, clínicas de arbitraje, caminatas, concursos de dibujos, entre otras.
La Union Panamericana de Judo (UPJ), espera las actividades que realizaran sus Federaciones Nacionales afiliadas para ampliar y promoverlas en estas publicaciones en el XVI Dia Internacional de Jigoro Kano el 28 de octubre 2026 en el 166 Aniversario de su nacimiento.

INTERNATIONAL JIGORO KANO DAY (1860–1938)
166TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS BIRTH, OCTOBER 28, 1860
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.– With the founding of the World Judo Federation (WJF) on August 26, 2010, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, «International Jigoro Kano Day» was established to highlight the life and achievements of this global figure—the man who founded the Kodokan in 1882 to promote and develop Judo.
This October 28th—the anniversary of Jigoro Kano’s birth—marks the 16th annual celebration.
Affiliated National Federations will host a variety of events, including talks on the life of Master Kano (who had the distinction of being the first member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from Japan, the «Land of the Rising Sun»), as well as demonstrations, rank examinations, officiating clinics, walks, and drawing contests, among others.
The Panamerican Judo Union (PJU), looks forward to receiving details on the activities planned by its affiliated National Federations, which will be featured in our communications for the 16th International Jigoro Kano Day—celebrated on October 28, 2026, the 166th anniversary of his birth.
