The International Judo Federation (IJF) is nothing more than a
profit-making enterprise
For the IJF, this project is definitely very important financially.
We must be clear about this. The International Judo Federation (IJF) is nothing more than a for-profit enterprise. It’s important for everyone to remember that the IJF lives, works, and develops thanks to the profits it receives from its members and sponsors.
In addition to organizing and running regional events, such as World Cups, Grand Prix, and World Championships, and of course, the fabulous Olympic Games, they obtain resources from their sponsors through all these events.
And how do they do it?
By using sophisticated electronic timing and scoring equipment in the competition area for judging. These manufacturers pay the IJF for the tatami mats used in the competition areas and the judogis, which are approved as exclusive to their competitions and officially established by them.
These companies grant the IJF certain economic benefits in exchange for advertising.
The IJF. They are sustained by these economic resources.
The most important source of income is:(TELEVISION RIGHTS).
By broadcasting their events. All these sponsors contribute a lot of money to the IJF.
A LOT OF MONEY.
MONEY THAT THEY DON’T USE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL SPORTS FEDERATIONS.
NOR FOR SUPPORTING THE ATHLETES WHO COMPETE IN ALL HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPETITIONS.
IT IS USED RATHER TO GUARANTEE FIRST-CLASS AIRFARE FOR ALL THEIR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS.
ALSO FOR ACCOMMODATIONS FOR ALL OFFICIALS, IN FIRST-CLASS OR FIVE-STAR HOTELS AND IN HIGH-CLASS ROOMS, FOR THEIR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.
IN PER DIEM ALLOWANCES RECEIVED BY EACH OF THE DIRECTORS WHO MANAGE THE EVENTS, DURING THE DURATION OF THE EVENT. AND PAYMENT
TO THE REFEREES.
IN SHORT, ALL OF THAT IS END UP SPENT ON TRAVEL, PER DIEM, VENUE RENTAL FOR CONFERENCES AND EVENTS.
INSURANCE AND POLICIES.
IT IS SPENT ON FOOD, REFRESHMENTS, MEETINGS, AND EVENTS.
AND OF COURSE, WE MIGHT THINK THAT WITHIN ALL OF THAT, SOME HINT OF CORRUPTION MIGHT ARISE.
IN SUMMARY, THE IJF
HAS AN EVER-GROWING NEED TO OBTAIN FINANCIAL RESOURCES.
NOW THEN. We need to find new sources of income.
And where can those necessary funds come from? From our members.

Ultimately, all of that ends up being spent on travel, per diem allowances, venue rentals for conferences and events.
Policies and insurance.
It’s spent on food, refreshments, meetings, and events.
And of course, we could think that within all of these things, some hint of corruption might arise.
In summary, the FIJ.
has an ever-increasing need to obtain financial resources.
Now then.
WE NEED TO FIND NEW SOURCES OF INCOME.
And where can these necessary funds come from? From our members. For example.
Think of the more than 50 million practitioners who join and are reported to the IJF each year as members in over 200 countries worldwide.
These members would need to request a Dan rank or its recognition. If they requested this, just 5% of those fifty million would amount to a quarter of a million applications to the IJF for their rank or recognition. And this will have a cost.
Let’s assume the average cost has a minimum value of $150.
Although we all know that each rank has a different cost, generally ranging between $150 and $500 depending on the rank level.
To illustrate, let’s take an average. That average would be $150. With that minimum amount.
We’re talking about the astronomical figure of over thirty million dollars annually. That’s what the IJF will be able to add to its annual budget for this purpose.
To be exact, $37,500,000 USD.
These regulations and resolutions will fill their coffers due to the payments WE will make to acquire or recognize our ranks.
NOT BAD FOR THE IJF.
RIGHT?CONCLUSIONS
I HOPE THAT OUR JUDO OFFICIALS HAVE THE INTEREST, AWARENESS, AND SOCIAL AND OLYMPIC RESPONSIBILITY TO INVEST IN THE ATHLETES WHO ARE THE REASON FOR ALL THE PROGRESS AND ECONOMIC BOOM THEY ENJOY.
CONTRIBUTING FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO THE FEDERATIONS
FOR:Scholarships. For athletes.
Travel. To events. Seminars for coaches and referees.
Tatami mats for national federations.
Changing equipment (judogis and belts).
It would be wonderful, friends, to receive this support from the IJF.
As I always say, this is my opinion based on my experiences.
Thank you very much.

Correct, the struggle is the path. Follow the north towards the new advances in Judo.
May God continue to grant him life and health. OSS.

This attempt, which is not only about money but also arrogant, is truly an attempt to take ownership of something that belongs to everyone: JUDO. Judo doesn’t belong to anyone; it belongs to everyone, or at least that was the original idea. This is nothing more than an attempt to sideline the thousands of organizations worldwide that don’t just treat Judo as a sport, but as a form of education and holistic development. Within these organizations, they have examination committees made up of highly proven Masters with extensive experience and knowledge who are the ones who examine and award credentials. This act continues to be based on obtaining medals and not on the holistic development that creates true professionals with mastery of gokyu, randori, katas, and self-defense. I invite you to visit this other comment: https://judojujutsuvida.blogspot.com/2026/03/preocupaciones-y-criticas-ante-la.html

Professor Chirino Renteria.
Crystal clear.
Finally, someone has the guts to speak out.
It was in 2007 when we opposed all those inconsistencies and the easy way they facilitated cronyism and vote-buying.
Let’s see:
– First-class airfare.
– Five-star hotel accommodations.
– Hefty per diems.
– Etc., etc., etc.
With this, they guarantee captive votes and thus maintain their questionable hold on power.
The other thing is the exorbitant hotel fees for international events due to the statistical option of staying in a hotel different from the one provided by the organizers; registration fees, etc.
In case you didn’t know, the Olympic dividends for the Athens Games gave the International Judo Federation (IJF) a value very close to 10 million dollars; what are they receiving now?
For 2007, they promised greater global development of Judo and started by taking 20 Olympic slots away from the Americas and giving them to Europe; the question is: has Pan American Judo improved since 2007?
Look at the statistical charts for World Championships and Olympic Games and tell me where the comparative position is.
The inner circle, the power brokers, those close to power, have their lifestyles secured with excellent benefits $$$$$$$$$$$$$.
I could write much more about this, but many will ignore it or dismiss it. However, you can be sure that those who praise and idolize this administration today will be the first to condemn it when this very poor management falls. Take note of their names! ——————————————

Judokas don’t have organizations that truly represent them. The continental confederations and most national federations act with complete acceptance and subservience to all the IJF’s decisions. They even replicate them immediately.

Wilfredo Duardo Rodriguez, as I mentioned, there are many organizations that are concerned with teaching Judo as it was created, where the competitive aspect is small and where there are examination boards that evaluate what is required for each rank.

Professor Chirino, it couldn’t be clearer: the powerful always want to screw over the poorest. I also want to clarify that the dan ranks in Florida are disrespectful. There are professors who don’t have any competitive track record and already have a 6th Dan, and nobody controls that, and it benefits the judo organizations in our state. A big hug, Professor.

It’s incredible how the greed of a few has distorted the IJF from its founder’s principles. At least we have organizations outside the commercial reach of Judo, with autonomy and their own rights, that follow a true traditional teaching structure, essence, and fundamentals.

Thank you, Sensei, for such a detailed report. Knowledge of how things are going… ZA REI… now let’s hope someone sees your writing to contribute and show… God willing, opportunities will appear, as you already said, for those with less economic means…

Agreed, it seems that what is happening internationally is the same problem that exists in the FMJ, the Mexican Judo Federation.

Your comment is very well received and true, Sensei. Corruption starts from the very foundations, which is why our sport, and most others, only see the athlete as a source of income and profit. It’s a shame, but we love it and have dedicated part of our lives to it, and we will continue with this burden. Always a hug, brother.

Since world-renowned Judo figures, who are dictators in their countries, have launched wars against neighboring countries, and some federations, out of misguided friendship, undeservedly award black belts to community presidents, I have no better alternative than to renounce my black belt… Only what the Kodokan endorses is valid for me… and since, in the eyes of the Kodokan, I am a white belt, I will proudly display this recognition… which gladly distances me from undesirable people who act like those high school classmates who beat up a 60-kilo boy who was wearing… My name is Jigoro Kano. At my age, one of the few things I’ve learned is that you have to be yourself and stand by your convictions… And that’s what I do… out of respect for those who came before me and taught me well. Being a white belt, on the other hand, is a way of returning to the origins that are so sorely needed in times like these. Farewell.
