\"\"Santo Domingo, Rep\u00fablica Dominicana.-<\/strong> En mi condici\u00f3n de vicepresidente de la Federaci\u00f3n Internacional de Judo (FIJ) y presidente de la Union Panamericana de Judo (UPJ), me correspondi\u00f3 asistir a la XL Asamblea General de la Organizaci\u00f3n Deportiva Panamericana (ODEPA), actualmente conocida como Panam Sports, que fue celebrada el 24 de agosto de 2002 en la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico.<\/div>\n

El hecho hist\u00f3rico m\u00e1s relevante de este encuentro fue la elecci\u00f3n de R\u00edo de Janeiro, Brasil como la ciudad sede para albergar los XV Juegos Panamericanos del 2007.
\nLa candidatura brasile\u00f1a se impuso en la primera ronda de votaciones a la ciudad de San Antonio, Texas (Estados Unidos) con un total de 30 votos a favor frente a 21.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Durante esta misma asamblea, el entonces presidente de la organizaci\u00f3n del deporte panamericano, Mario V\u00e1zquez Ra\u00f1a, ratific\u00f3 el apoyo para la realizaci\u00f3n de los XIV Juegos Panamericanos en Santo Domingo, que tendr\u00edan lugar un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s (2003), del 1 al 17 de agosto,
\nEn la ocasi\u00f3n fueron ultimados detalles y preparativos a la vez que se aprobaron informes organizativos de los XIV Juegos Panamericanos que se celebraron en la Republica Dominicana en 2003 y de esta manera se consolido la planificaci\u00f3n de los 42 Comit\u00e9s Ol\u00edmpicos Nacionales miembros de la Odepa.
\n\"\"La delegaci\u00f3n dominicana que presento los avances organizativos a los Juegos Panamericanos, Santo Domingo 2003, estuvo encabezada por el doctor Jos\u00e9 Joaquin Puello Herrera en su doble condici\u00f3n de presidente del Comit\u00e9 Ol\u00edmpico Dominicano (COD) y del Comit\u00e9 Organizador.
\nAs\u00ed mismo, presentes el ingeniero Miguel Vargas Maldonado, secretario de estado de obras p\u00fablicas y el vicealmirante (R) Ramon Emilio Jim\u00e9nez quien fungi\u00f3 como vicepresidente ejecutivo del Comit\u00e9 Organizador, entre otros dirigentes deportivos del m\u00e1s alto relieve.

\n<\/strong><\/strong>Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.\u2013<\/strong> In my capacity as Vice President of the International Judo Federation (IJF) and President of the Panamerican Judo Union (PJU), I had the honor of attending the 40th General Assembly of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), now known as Panam Sports, which was held on August 24, 2002, in Mexico City.
\nThe most significant historical event of this meeting was the selection of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as the host city for the XV Pan American Games in 2007. The Brazilian bid prevailed in the first round of voting over San Antonio, Texas (United States), with 30 votes in favor to 21 against.
\nDuring this same assembly, the then-president of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), Mario V\u00e1zquez Ra\u00f1a, reaffirmed support for the XIV Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, which would take place a year later (2003), from August 1 to 17.
\nOn this occasion, final details and preparations were completed, and organizational reports for the XIV Pan American Games held in the Dominican Republic in 2003 were approved, thus consolidating the planning of the 42 National Olympic Committees that are members of PASO.
\nThe Dominican delegation that presented the organizational progress for the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo was headed by Dr. Jos\u00e9 Joaqu\u00edn Puello Herrera, in his dual capacity as president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) and the Organizing Committee.
