Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana.-<\/b>\u00a0Los Juegos Ol\u00edmpicos de Sydney 2000, oficialmente conocidos como los Juegos de la XXVII Olimp\u00edada se celebraron en Sydney, Australia del 15 de septiembre al 1 de octubre de 2000.
\nEn la ocasi\u00f3n 199 pa\u00edses, 10,651 atletas en 28 deportes vieron acci\u00f3n en Sydney 2000 siendo la segunda vez que Australia present\u00f3 la m\u00e1xima expresi\u00f3n deportiva a nivel mundial ya que la primera fue en la ciudad de Melbourne en 1956 y realizar\u00e1 la tercera entrega seg\u00fan la asignaci\u00f3n actual del Comit\u00e9 Ol\u00edmpico Internacional en Bisbane 2032.
\nLa victoria de la atleta ind\u00edgena australiana Cathy Freeman en los 400 metros ante un estadio lleno sigue siendo la imagen que define la cita bajo los cinco aros de S\u00eddney, como ciudad sede.
\nPara estos Juegos de Sydney me correspondi\u00f3 ser el director administrativo de la delegaci\u00f3n de Rep\u00fablica Dominicana en mi condici\u00f3n de tesorero del Comit\u00e9 Ol\u00edmpico Dominicano, adem\u00e1s, presente como vicepresidente de la Federaci\u00f3n Internacional de Judo (FIJ) y presidente de la Uni\u00f3n Panamericana de Judo (UPJ).

En la ocasi\u00f3n el presidente del Comit\u00e9 Ol\u00edmpico Dominicano (COD) lo era el doctor Jos\u00e9 Joaqu\u00edn Puello Herrera y su secretario general el licenciado Luis Mej\u00eda Oviedo.
\nComo Jefe de Misi\u00f3n de la delegaci\u00f3n dominicana estuvo el arquitecto H\u00e9ctor Duval quien realiz\u00f3 un estupendo trabajo de organizaci\u00f3n y representaci\u00f3n en esta participaci\u00f3n del pa\u00eds.
\nMuy gratos los recuerdos de la ciudad de Sydney, su gente amable, seguridad y lugares emblem\u00e1ticos como su Opera House, entre otras atracciones.
\nEn el medallero general Cuba sac\u00f3 la cabeza por Latinoam\u00e9rica al lograr un noveno lugar producto de 11 medallas de oro, igual cantidad de plata y 7 de bronce para un total de 29 preseas.

Por su parte los Estados Unidos obtuvieron el primer lugar con 37 oro, 24 de plata y 32 de bronce para 93 preseas en total, seguido por Rusia en segundo lugar y China en honrosa tercera posici\u00f3n.
\nEn las actividades que me correspondieron participar recib\u00ed un dibujo del ni\u00f1o Isobel Minack de Mosman Public School con el tema \u00abBienvenido a Australia\u00bb, externando su criterio en lo que el dibujo significaba para \u00e9l.
\nAnexo la copia del dibujo en cuesti\u00f3n en ambas caras en estos 25 a\u00f1os de la celebraci\u00f3n de los Juegos de la XXVII Olimp\u00edada Sydney 2000 que disfrut\u00e9 en compa\u00f1\u00eda de mi hijo Jaime y mi amigo de toda una larga vida el paname\u00f1o Miguel Vanegas.<\/p>\n

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.-<\/strong> The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXVII Olympiad, were held in Sydney, Australia, from September 15 to October 1, 2000.
\n199 countries and 10,651 athletes in 28 sports competed in Sydney 2000. This was the second time Australia has hosted the world’s premier sporting event, with the first being in Melbourne in 1956. It will also be the third time, according to the International Olympic Committee’s current allocation, in Sydney 2032.

Indigenous Australian athlete Cathy Freeman’s victory in the 400 meters before a packed stadium remains the defining image of the event under Sydney’s five rings as host city.
\nFor these Sydney Games, I was the administrative director of the Dominican Republic delegation in my capacity as treasurer of the Dominican Olympic Committee. I was also present as vice president of the International Judo Federation (IJF) and president of the Panamerican Judo Union (PJU).
\nOn this occasion, the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) was Dr. Jos\u00e9 Joaqu\u00edn Puello Herrera, and its secretary general was Luis Mej\u00eda Oviedo.
\nThe architect H\u00e9ctor Duval served as the Dominican delegation’s chef de mission, performing a superb job of organizing and representing the country’s participation.

I have very fond memories of the city of Sydney, its friendly people, its security, and its iconic sites like the Opera House, among other attractions.
\nIn the overall medal table, Cuba stood out for Latin America, achieving ninth place with 11 gold medals, the same number of silver medals, and 7 bronze medals, for a total of 29 medals.
\nFor its part, the United States took first place with 37 gold, 24 silver, and 32 bronze medals for a total of 93 medals, followed by Russia in second place and China in honorable third place.

In the activities in which I participated, I received a drawing from Mosman Public School student Isobel Minack with the theme \u00abWelcome to Australia,\u00bb expressing his thoughts on what the drawing meant to him.
\nI am attaching a copy of the drawing in question, both sides of which were shared during these 25 years of the celebration of the Games of the XXVII Olympiad Sydney 2000, which I enjoyed in the company of my son Jaime and my lifelong friend, Panamanian Miguel Vanegas.<\/p>\n
