The\u00a0International Olympic Committee<\/a>\u00a0(IOC<\/strong>) took an important step this week following a workshop entitled\u00a0\u201cPause and Reflect\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0held in Lausanne, Switzerland. During the event, IOC President\u00a0Kirsty Coventry<\/strong>\u00a0announced the creation of two working groups that will focus on key priorities for the future of the Olympic Movement. These initiatives seek to review the process for selecting future\u00a0Olympic Games<\/strong>\u00a0venues and protect\u00a0women\u2019s sports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Coventry mentioned that the experiences of\u00a0Los Angeles 2028<\/strong>,\u00a0Brisbane 2032<\/strong>, and the\u00a0French Alps 2030<\/strong>\u00a0will be used as references. While the first two venues were assigned 11 years in advance, the French Alps were chosen only six years before the Games. This analysis will seek to determine the ideal balance between long-term planning and flexibility.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s category in sport<\/h2>\n

The second working group will focus on the protection of the\u00a0women\u2019s category, an issue that also received broad support from IOC members<\/strong>.
