The\u00a0Association of National Olympic Committees<\/strong>\u00a0(ANOC<\/strong>) Sustainability Commission has released a report highlighting the sustainability progress made by 14 National Olympic Committees<\/strong>\u00a0(NOCs<\/strong>) during the\u00a0Paris 2024 Olympic Games<\/a>. This report compiles initiatives such as the exclusive use of trains to transport athletes, the reuse of uniforms from past events and the reduction of single-use plastics.<\/h3>\n

The document, available on the sustainability section of the\u00a0ANOC website<\/a>, seeks to inspire other NOCs to adopt similar measures. The Commission stressed the importance of sharing these strategies at the outset of\u00a0preparations for future Games<\/strong>, even before contracts are signed, to maximize positive environmental impact.<\/h3>\n

GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2024, AN EXAMPLE OF LOCAL IMPACT<\/h3>\n

At its October 29 meeting in Cascais, the Commission also addressed the sustainability efforts implemented at ANOC General Assembly 2024, which focused on generating local impact beyond traditional carbon offsets. Among the initiatives highlighted,\u00a010,000 trees were planted<\/strong>\u00a0in partnership with the city of\u00a0Cascais<\/strong>, a beach cleanup was organized with\u00a0Procter & Gamble and the Ocean Foundation<\/strong>, and electric and hybrid vehicles were introduced in partnership with Toyota.<\/h3>\n

In addition, hydration stations with reverse osmosis technology from\u00a0Bluewater<\/strong>\u00a0were set up and biodegradable bottles developed by the\u00a0Mirpuri Foundation were distributed<\/strong>. The organization also reused leftover food with the support of\u00a0ReFood<\/strong>\u00a0and transformed event signage into giveaways through a partnership with\u00a0Restore<\/strong>, promoting resource efficiency.<\/h3>\n

NEW TOOLS TO DRIVE SUSTAINABILITY<\/h3>\n

During the meeting, other key developments were discussed, such as the development of a\u00a0NOC Sustainability Dashboard<\/strong>, to be launched next year, and progress on a\u00a0Sustainable Procurement Policy<\/strong>. In addition, ANOC has expanded its collaboration with\u00a0Project OCEAN<\/strong>\u00a0to improve carbon emissions calculation, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability in sport.<\/h3>\n

Another relevant step was ANOC\u2019s adherence to the\u00a0Sports for Nature Framework<\/strong>, reinforcing its dedication to integrating sustainable practices throughout its operations. This framework fosters collaboration between NOCs and the global sports community, avoiding duplication and maximizing impact.<\/h3>\n

INVITATION FOR COLLECTIVE LEARNING<\/h3>\n

The Commission called on NOCs that have not yet shared their\u00a0Paris 2024<\/strong>\u00a0sustainability achievements to do so, with the aim of enriching the report and fostering collective learning. These experiences not only inspire other committees, but also lay\u00a0the groundwork for advancing the environmental, social and economic impact<\/strong>\u00a0of future sporting events.<\/h3>\n

\nEste informe recopila iniciativas como el uso exclusivo de trenes para el transporte de atletas, la reutilizaci\u00f3n de uniformes de eventos pasados \u200b\u200by la reducci\u00f3n de pl\u00e1sticos de un solo uso.<\/span><\/span>
\nEl documento, disponible en la secci\u00f3n de sostenibilidad del sitio web de la ANOC, busca inspirar a otros CON a adoptar medidas similares.<\/span><\/span> La Comisi\u00f3n destac\u00f3 la importancia de compartir estas estrategias al comienzo de los preparativos para los futuros Juegos, incluso antes de que se firmen los contratos, para maximizar el impacto ambiental positivo.<\/span><\/span>
\nASAMBLEA GENERAL 2024, UN EJEMPLO DE IMPACTO LOCAL
\nEn su reuni\u00f3n del 29 de octubre en Cascais, la Comisi\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n abord\u00f3 los esfuerzos de sostenibilidad implementados en la Asamblea General de la ANOC 2024, que se centraron en generar un impacto local m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de las compensaciones de carbono tradicionales.<\/span><\/span>

\nAdem\u00e1s, ANOC ha ampliado su colaboraci\u00f3n con el Proyecto OCEAN para mejorar el c\u00e1lculo de las emisiones de carbono, reforzando su compromiso con la sostenibilidad en el deporte.<\/span><\/span>

\nLa Comisi\u00f3n invit\u00f3 a los CON que a\u00fan no han compartido sus logros en materia de sostenibilidad en Par\u00eds 2024 a que lo hagan, con el objetivo de enriquecer el informe y fomentar el aprendizaje colectivo.<\/span><\/span> Estas experiencias no solo inspiran a otros comit\u00e9s, sino que tambi\u00e9n sientan las bases para avanzar en el impacto ambiental, social y econ\u00f3mico de futuros eventos deportivos.<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n
